In attendance were: Al Takatsch, Stan Craig, Bob
Rothen, Earl Knight, Brett Louis, Dan Spath, John Ryea, George Tresansky, George Painter, Bill Miller, Wilbur Robinson, Jack
Kennan, Tom Koluch, David Grau and David Hannemann.
President Al Takatsch provided introductions and
the members indicated current project information, if any. He discussed the meeting
agenda; discussion of the Safety Sheet for members by Al Takasch, George Painter and John Rhea, Presentation of several versions
of the Horological Association of Maryland Mission Statement, and a demonstration by Bill Miller of accessories for the jeweler’s
lathe.
Secretary’s Report: David Hannemann gave the secretaries report for the last business meeting on February 9th and
the meeting notes for the workshop on February 23rd where the Safety Sheet for HAM was introduced.
Treasurer’s Report: Stan Craig provided Treasurer’s reports for February 2009 which indicated we were still solvent.
New Business:
Our president, Al Takatsch, asked David Grau to present two proposed mission statements which were: “The Horological Association of Maryland promotes among its members the highest ideals of conduct,
education, and technical competency through mutual respect and shared learning.” or “The Horological Association of Maryland promotes learning, fellowship, and mutual understanding
among its members, in the pursuit of the highest ideals of conduct and education in the Horological profession.” After some discussion the following mission statement was adopted unanimously: “The Horological Association of Maryland promotes among its membership the highest
ideals of education, and technical competency in the field of clock and watch repair through mutual respect and shared learning.”
John Ryea, who had been absent when the HAM Safety
Sheet had been proposed, made several comments and suggested that the title of Safety Officer be changed to Safety Coordinator. The membership agreed to have George Painter and John Ryea propose changes to the
existing documents and present them at a future meeting.
The membership then gathered around Bill Miller
as he demonstrated the some of the numerous accessories for the jeweler’s lathe.
The membership truly enjoyed the presentation with many of the members “in awe” of just how much can be
accomplished on the jeweler’s lathe with the right accessories.
George Tresansky won the 50/50 for this meeting.
Respectfully submitted,
David Hannemann, Secretary
