From the Pres.
Well Guys, we had another Good Meeting!

July 13th,
George Tresansky talked about the Very Interesting talk about how to discern an original and valuable Ferguson Pocket Watch Dials.

Bob and Stan showed slides on how to define similar parts made by different manufactures.

The Internet Site, The Little Machine Shop, donated $80.00 in Gifts to us that we will raffle off one at each meeting in place of the fifty-fifty bankroll that we normally do. They also sent Inch and Metric Tap Drill and Clearance drill charts and Catalogs for every member.
In case you didn't make the July 13 meeting, the items to choose from will be:
- a Shop Apron
- a 6 inch Electronic Caliper
- a Dial Indicator, Magnetic Base & Point Set
- a $25.00 Gift Certificate to The Little Machine Shop good towards any purchase. Just go to littlemachineshop.com for online ordering.

July 27th,
I missed this one, I was selling Food Platters for my Ruritan Club at the Jefferson Carnival.
-Dan won the Drawing and will have his choice of LMS Gifts.
-George T. brought in his Kenninger movement with chrome plated arbors and discussed the pros and cons of repair or replacement.
-Bob and Stan talked about a repair to Dave Hannemann's platform escapement.
LeRoy gave a description of Bob's discussion:
The guard pin discussion involved the repair of an escapement platform for David H's clock.  David had broken the guard pin off the pallet fork arm.  Bob R. made a replacement guard pin and installed it on the arm while Stanly assembled the platform and fine tuned it.  How do you create a tiny guard pin consisting of a post with an arm (L shaped) projected from it?  Bob's solution - he turned a disk whose radius was the length of the guard pin arm, and included a post with stepped shoulder at its center.  The smaller stepped end of the post would be inserted in a hole on the pallet fork arm and riveted.  He then marked out the guard pin on the disk surface and removed all the excess metal of the disk, creating a post with attached arm.  The repair restored the platform escapement to its original condition. The concept of the repair helps the rest of us think out side the box.
LeRoy

I spoke to Jim Michaels at NAWCC, School Director and Lead Watch Instructor, he invited our club to come up and tour the School and Workshops. This needs to be a afternoon weekday trip. We only need to come up with a date. Jim also expressed interest in joining us after he comes back from the AWCI Convention.

For those of you that look SkyWard

The annual Perseid meteor shower began in late July and will peak the night of Tuesday, Aug. 11, and early morning of Wednesday, Aug. 12.

Guests at meteor-watching parties should bring blankets or reclining lawn chairs so they can lie back to watch the sky. Standing and craning your neck back will lead to a stiff neck.

Tri-State Astronomers next to Antietam National Battlefield's visitors center at 9:30 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 11, and Wednesday, Aug. 12. The parties will last until 1 a.m. For more information, call Dan Kaminsky at 301-988-9828 or go to www.tristateastronomers.org .
