In attendance were: Al Takatsch, Stan Craig, Earl Knight, Brett Louis, Bob Rothen, Dan Spath, John Ryea, Jack Bishop, George Tresansky, Bill Miller, Don Buck, Jack Kennan, George Painter and Dave Hannemann.

Old Business:  There was no old business discussed.

New Business:  David Grau had e-mailed the results of the survey for topics of future HAM seminars, unfortunately, David was not in attendance so nothing was discussed.

Dan Spath discussed his attendance at the Board of Directors meeting for AWCI on February 7-9th.  AWCI still has financial/management issues.  The Executive Board, with the concurrence of the Board of Directors has decided to investigate the possibility of hiring a management company to operate AWCI.  They are currently looking at candidates.

Jack Bishop won 50/50 drawing.

Our next meeting is scheduled for February 25th at the Howard County Senior Center.

Respectfully, Dave Hannemann

From the VP Shop: Al Takatsch

I received this Nice Little French Clock for cleaning and repair. It would not run at all with a full wind due too being gummed up. I admire the makers for designing a clock that runs on so little power due to its precision parts. As time goes by, the oil hardens and stops the movement usually before metal wear takes place. I have shown before and after pictures.

The movement was then cleaned up and polished. During assembly, be sure the 4th and 5th wheels are timed properly for Warning Position, They do not have a removable back pivot support and will require plates to be separated if you get it wrong. Position the 2nd and 3rd wheels so hammer lift is not touched when strike cycle has come to rest as well as during Warning Lock. I find it is helpful to mark these wheels because the French Maker has marks that are very hard to see and a couple are facing the plate only to be seen by the reflection in the polished plate.

I assembled clock for a test. I found I had a Wobbling Pendulum. Inspection showed the suspension spring was broken halfway, hanging and wobbling. Replacement spring install did not fix the wobble. After checking and adjusting the problem persisted. No other cause was found so a second suspension spring is installed and the problem disappeared. Go figure. Timed beat to 10320 bph using a Timetrax and it ran for 11 days time & strike.
Parts used, 2 mainsprings & a suspension spring.

As you can see the Brass Case had a tarnished look that cleaned up nicely with Brasso.
Clock is now ready to go home.
Next Case!
